Eiffel unseen: A tour of the French capital with a huge difference - Paris for the blind

'We love it when you sighted paint beautiful pictures for us,' Amar said into the microphone in his soft Scottish accent. 'The majority of us here haven't always been blind, so we know what colours are.

Paris: From gruesome gargoyles to Louis XV's pet rhinoceros - how to keep children entertained in the French capital

The arguments began long before we left home. Madeleine, 14, wanted to go clothes-shopping. Aurelia, eight, wanted to see animals. And Heloise, 12, wanted to do whatever her sisters didn't want to do. We were off to Paris and everyone had different ideas as to what we should visit.

Chau Au Guide books gave us little help. And all the internet sites with recommendations for child-friendly Paris seemed to have been written exclusively by people without children. But happily I had an advantage over most families heading to France's glittering capital. My wife is Parisian, born and brought up in the city. And she knew exactly what we should see.
Stylish hotels, old landmarks and world-class concerts: Six things you must do in Berlin

Berlin has boomed since the two halves of the city, East and West, were joined with the fall of the Wall in 1989. Stylish shops, bars, restaurants, hotels and clubs have sprung up over drab wastelands. Bold new architectural creations now stand alongside restored old landmarks.

Taking a shine to Andorra

Andorra was somewhere I'd always thought of as a place where rich people waited to die. A tax haven, a touch dull . . . But then I'd never ventured into the hills. When the chance came to go there, I had to change my mind. It's lovely. The sun was shining, but then the sun shines a lot in Andorra: some 300 days a year. That's a record worthy of note, particularly if you've got small children in tow.

In fact, it's a resort - or rather five resorts - that's perfect for kids. The whole feel is somewhat Toytownish by comparison with France or Switzerland, and the slopes wouldn't challenge the good intermediate skier.
