Dalat is actually something of an education centre. The reason for this is its climate: before air-con, it was one of the few places in Vietnam where it was possible to study without working up a sweat. Therefore, a number of educational institutions were located in town, with Dalat University (1 Phu Dong Thien Vuong St) being the most famous.

This is one of the highest (90m) and most magnificent and easily accessible waterfalls in Vietnam. The views are positively breathtaking – the steep walk up the path to the top of the falls with almost certainly take your breath away (unless you opt to ride the cable car for 5000d).

Known to the French as Bellevue Pass, Ngoan Muc Pass (attitude 980m) is about 5km towards Phan Rang and Thap Cham from Dan Nhim Lake and 64km west of Phan Rang. On a clear day you can see all the way across the coastal plain to the Pacific Ocean (an aerial distance of 55km)!

Created by a dam in 1919, Xuan Huong Lake is in the centre of Dalat. It is named after a 17th-century Vietnamese poet known for daring attacks on the hypocrisy of social conventions and the foibles of scholars, monks, mandarins, feudal lords and kings. The lake can be circumnavigated along a 7km sealed path..
