The town of Cu Chi is a district of greater HCMC and has a population of about 200,000 (it had about 80,000 residents during the American War). At first glance there is little evidence here to indicate the intense fighting, bombing and destruction that occurred in Cu Chi during the war. To see what when on, you have to dig deeper – underground.

Next to the old Cercle Sportif, which was an elite sporting club during the French-colonial period, the bench-lined walks of Cultural Park are shaded with avenues of enormous tropical trees. In the morning, you can often see people here practicing the art of thai cuc quyen, or slow-motion shadow boxing. Within the park is also a small-scaled model of Nha Trang’s most famous towers.
This place still has an active sports club that is possible to visit. It has 11 tennis courts, a passable swimming pool and a faded colonial feel about them. The tennis courts are available for hire at a reasonable fee and hourly tickets are on sale for use of the pool. The antique dressing rooms are quaint, but there are no lockers. There are also Roman-style baths and a coffee shop overlooking the colonnaded pool. Other facilities include a gymnasium, table tennis, weights, wrestling mats and ballroom-dancing classes.
Cultural Park is adjacent to Reunification Palace. There are entrances across from 115 Nguyen Du St and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai St.

Geography
In the core of the Mekong Delta, Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is second the most important in Vietnam after Hanoi. It is not only a commercial center but also a scientific, technological, industrial and tourist center. The city is bathed by many rivers, arroyos and canals, the biggest river being the Saigon River. The Port of Saigon, established in 1862, is accessible to ships weighing up to 30,000 tons, a rare advantage for an inland river port.
