Semur-en-Auxois is a small old town with a marvelous setting in the heart of Burgundy in central of France. The romantic old town is still mostly encircled by town walls and from a distance is a picture-book sample of a medieval town with strong ramparts, mighty towers, and slender church spires. The setting and old-town streets are the main attractions with few formal sights other than the lovely Gothic church. Below the ramparts, it is mostly a straight drop to the Armançon River that loops around the old town to form an oxbow.
